Czestochowa Tour (The Black Madonna)
The Pauline monastery of Jasna Gora in Czestochowa is the most famous Marian sanctuary in Poland. It houses the icon depicting the Mother of God with the Christ Child known as the Black Madonna of Czestochowa or Our Lady of Czestochowa. The painting is widely venerated and credited with many miracles from the XIV century, among these saving the Jasna Gora monastery during a siege that took place at the time of The Deluge, a 17th century Swedish invasion. Afterwards, on April 1, 1656, the Kingof Poland John Casimir consecrated the country under the protection of the Blessed Virgin and solemnly declared her the Patron and Queen of Poland. In the sanctuary, John Paul II entrusted all his pontificate to the Blessed Mother saying "Totus Tuus".
